Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has declared a 24-hour curfew in Minna following unrest over the deaths of 37 illegal miners in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

According to Peoples Gazette, the curfew will take effect immediately after Friday’s Juma’at prayer.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Digital Media and Strategy, Abdullbergy Usman Ebbo, urged residents to comply with the directive to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

The development follows the suspension of the NSCDC state commandant, Suberu Siyaka Aniviye.
