Former Kogi State Governor Ibrahim Idris has died in the United Kingdom at the age of 77

Former Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ibrahim Idris has died in the United Kingdom at the age of 77, according to a report by PUNCH.

Idris reportedly passed away on Sunday, with family sources indicating he had suffered a protracted illness. Following news of his death, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, former Governor Yahaya Bello, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Abdullahi Bello, and other top government officials visited the deceased’s Abuja residence to condole with his family.

Ododo subsequently declared three days of mourning across Kogi State and directed that national and state flags be flown at half-mast at government offices and designated public institutions. The state government also announced that Idris would receive a state burial, with the government taking responsibility for the arrangements.

Idris governed Kogi State from 2003 to 2012 under the Peoples Democratic Party, first taking office in May 2003 and serving a second term after the 2007 election, which was later nullified and re-contested. He was succeeded by Idris Wada in January 2012. Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, also mourned the former governor, describing him as a significant figure in the state’s political history and in the PDP. The circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately clear.
