Lagos-Calabar highway: FG gives motorists two weeks to comply or face shutdown

The Federal Government has given road users two weeks to comply with safety rules on the Lagos section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway or face a shutdown.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Olufemi Dare, issued the ultimatum on Monday during an inspection, reported by Vanguard. He cited speeding, vandalism and illegal parking, noting the 30km/h limit where construction continues.

Dare said Works Minister David Umahi raised concerns over persistent breaches. He warned that unless there is improvement within two weeks, “we have no option than to come back and shut down this road,” Vanguard reported.

He added that police deployment is being increased, while okada, tricycles, hawking and illegal U-turns are banned. About 5km of ClearVu fencing has been stolen, and 40 coastal guards will be recruited.
