Flood alert: Lagos orders residents in vulnerable areas to relocate

The Lagos State Government has directed residents of low-lying and flood-prone communities to temporarily relocate to safer areas following a fresh seven-day flood alert.

According to The Nation, the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency warned that Lagos and 14 other states could experience flooding due to rising river levels.

Environment Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab identified vulnerable areas including Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, Oke-Ira Nla, Kirikiri, Ilaje Waterfront, Isheri North, Kara, Majidun and Ogolonto.

Wahab urged residents near rivers, lagoons, wetlands and drainage channels to remain vigilant and relocate before floodwaters rise.

He also warned against driving or walking through flooded roads and urged residents to avoid dumping refuse in waterways during the alert period.
