Magu’s tenure: Appeal Court ruling vindicates us — Saraki

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki says he feels vindicated after the Court of Appeal ruled that Ibrahim Magu’s prolonged tenure as acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was unlawful.

According to TheCable, the appellate court overturned a 2019 Federal High Court judgment that upheld Magu’s continued stay despite the Senate twice rejecting his nomination as substantive EFCC chairman.

Saraki said the eighth Senate, which he led, rejected Magu in 2016 and 2017 while exercising its constitutional responsibility.

He also alleged that senators, their families and associates faced pressure from Magu following the rejection.

Saraki said the ruling reinforced the Senate’s position years later.

Magu served as acting EFCC chairman from 2015 until his suspension in July 2020.
