PDP backs Wike’s support for Tinubu amid rift with APC governors

The Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees has expressed support for Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, saying the party remains proud of his performance despite his decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

According to Peoples Gazette, PDP BoT Chairman Mao Ohuabunwa made the remarks during a condolence visit to Wike in Abuja over the death of the party’s South-South National Vice Chairman, Dan Orbih.

Ohuabunwa said Wike had informed the party at all levels before accepting his ministerial appointment and received unanimous approval to represent the PDP in government.

The BoT chairman urged Wike to remain focused, while Wike reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP and its rebuilding.

The development comes amid disagreements between Wike and APC governors over his Rainbow Coalition and support for Tinubu’s re-election.

The APC Governors’ Forum has rejected political arrangements involving the coalition that could affect the party’s candidates and structures.
