US firm: America won’t let Tinubu rig 2027 election

Washington-based lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York has declared that the United States will not allow President Bola Tinubu to rig the 2027 Nigerian general elections, warning that electoral fraud in Nigeria could set the country on a path similar to the military-led transitions that recently swept Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.

According to Daily Post, the firm, retained by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, made the assertion in a post on its verified X handle on Thursday, alleging that there was growing bipartisan consensus in Washington that the Tinubu administration represented “a bastion of corruption.”

“The US cannot afford to allow President Tinubu to rig the upcoming Nigerian election. This level of lawlessness in the Nigerian government puts Nigeria on a path similar to those seen in Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso. Free and fair elections in Nigeria are essential to protecting US interests in Nigeria and the broader region,” the firm stated.

The lobbying firm also alleged that Tinubu had appointed an individual the US Department of Justice said had embezzled billions from Nigeria’s treasury during a previous administration to serve as minister in charge of the national budget — without naming the individual.

The Presidency had not responded to the allegations at press time. Tinubu has consistently denied all corruption and drug trafficking allegations against him.
