Argentine President Javier Milei attacks UN as ‘useless organisation’ at General Assembly

Argentine President Javier Milei has attacked the United Nations, describing it as a “useless organization” filled with “arrogant parasites” during his address to the General Assembly on Wednesday.

Milei accused the UN of failing to guarantee collective security and human rights, alleging that its shortcomings had allowed chaos, violence and international terrorism to flourish. He also criticised the organisation over Argentina’s claim to the Falkland Islands, known locally as the Malvinas, accusing it of ignoring what he described as Britain’s unilateral actions.

“For us, the Malvinas are a national cause,” Milei said, arguing that the dispute also raised questions about the UN’s ability to enforce its resolutions.

The Argentine leader also highlighted his government’s close relationship with the United States. Argentina and the US announced the Andes-Atlantic Corridor, aimed at improving infrastructure links involving transport, digital networks, minerals and energy, including the Vaca Muerta hydrocarbon region, to Atlantic ports and Western markets.
