Umahi orders removal of adverts on Niger Bridge, wants Tinubu’s pictures displayed

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has ordered the removal of all advertisements on the First Niger Bridge and directed that President Bola Tinubu’s pictures be displayed on the structure after repairs.

According to The Whistler, Umahi issued the directive on Wednesday while inspecting ongoing repair and maintenance works on the bridge with representatives of Anambra and Delta states.

“Once we are done with work on this bridge, I want all the illegal adverts on this bridge removed. Anyone who wants to advertise should apply to the Ministry of Works.

“For now, the bridge will be decorated with the pictures of President Tinubu. The President has worked so hard and we need to reward his hard work by decorating this bridge with his pictures,” Umahi said.

The minister said the bridge’s reopening, initially scheduled for September 21, had been shifted to an unspecified date next week because of persistent rainfall.

He added that only one carriageway would reopen initially, while work continued on the other. Umahi also ordered the removal of security checkpoints within 200 metres of the bridge to ease traffic, while banning dredging around the structure and directing the installation of CCTV cameras and streetlights.
