Poland sounds alarm over Russia threat, urges emergency preparations

Polish officials have urged citizens to prepare evacuation bags as tensions rise following an alleged Russian helicopter incursion into Polish airspace.

According to Metro, a Russian Mi-8 helicopter reportedly crossed about 1,000 feet into Polish territory near Braniewo after flying from the heavily militarised Kaliningrad region.

The aircraft remained over Poland for approximately 42 seconds, prompting NATO fighter jets to scramble.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said he keeps an evacuation backpack, food supplies and other emergency provisions at home, urging citizens to follow government safety guidance.

Polish armed forces said radar systems tracked the helicopter and described the incident as another test of the country’s air defences.

Poland has heightened military readiness amid regional security concerns.
