Peter Obi: I’ll never abuse Tinubu, he has my respect

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has said he would never abuse President Bola Tinubu, insisting the president has his respect, Daily Post reports.

Obi made the statement on Friday at the 2026 All Nigeria Editors’ Conference in Enugu, themed “The Ballot, the Media and the Task of Keeping Democracy Alive.” “I cannot abuse any governor.

I cannot abuse anybody in government… Who has seen me calling President Tinubu’s name? Never! I will not do that. He’s the President of the country, he has all my respect,” he said, adding that political disagreements should focus on policies and performance rather than personal attacks.

The former Anambra State governor further stressed that respect for public office holders should not stop citizens and the media from questioning their decisions, urging editors to scrutinise politicians based on their records, statements and qualifications — a call that positions Obi as drawing a clear line between principled opposition and personal hostility ahead of the 2027 race.
