Russian daytime strikes kill five in Kyiv, including Israeli teen

Russian strikes have killed five people in Kyiv, including a 14-year-old boy, as attacks on Ukraine’s capital intensify, News Central reports.

Kyiv authorities said the deaths occurred during daytime attacks on Friday that hit civilian areas, transport infrastructure, warehouses and residential buildings, with dozens more injured. Israel’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the 14-year-old killed in the morning commute was an Israeli citizen, with his mother among those wounded, while Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko later confirmed four more deaths after blasts rang out across the city in the early afternoon. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strikes as “absolutely savage and sickening” and “devoid of any military logic.”

The attacks came as Zelensky disclosed that US President Donald Trump had approved licences for Patriot air defence systems, part of Kyiv’s push to produce the advanced systems domestically under US licence. With Russia increasingly launching daylight strikes using jet-powered drones capable of bypassing existing interception systems, the latest deaths underscore the mounting strain on Ukraine’s air defence network as the war grinds on.
