Lagos police identify, arrest officer over “Igbo man can never be president” remark

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an officer who, in a viral video, said Peter Obi or any Igbo person can never become president of Nigeria, Daily Post reports.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, identified the officer as Osumah Frank and confirmed that disciplinary action had begun against him in line with Nigeria Police Force regulations.

She clarified that the remarks were made in his personal capacity and “do not represent the position, views or official disposition” of the command or the force, adding that Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai had reiterated that all personnel must maintain professionalism, civility and respect for the public.

“Wearing the Police uniform comes with the responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force,” the statement said, warning that the command “will not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute” — a firm signal that further sanctions could follow as scrutiny of the officer’s conduct continues.
