I accept my daughters’ decision to be lesbians, their happiness my priority — Charly Boy

Veteran entertainer and social commentator, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has said he accepted his two daughters’ decision to identify as lesbians because his priority is their happiness.

In an interview with The Punch, Charly Boy said he initially struggled with his younger daughter’s disclosure but eventually embraced a supportive approach to parenting.

He said, “My only concern is for her to be happy.”

Charly Boy explained that he believes parents cannot control the lives of their adult children, adding that love influenced his decision to accept their choices.

“And because I love my children deeply, I adapted quickly. I didn’t want to be an old-fashioned, rigid father; I wanted to be a supportive, open father.”

He said his approach had evolved with younger generations, noting, “The days of beating and commanding are gone and can’t come back.”

Charly Boy also described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a friend and father figure, saying they speak regularly and sometimes discuss religion
