Pentagon quietly updates casualty database with 37 additional wounded troops

The Pentagon has quietly increased its public tally of U.S. troops wounded during the Iran war by 37, bringing the total number of wounded personnel to 861, according to a review by The Washington Post.

The increase includes 29 Navy sailors and eight Marines added to the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS), the Pentagon’s public database for military casualties. The database does not specify when or how the 37 service members were wounded.

A Navy official told The Post that all 29 sailors had returned to duty following unspecified injuries. Pentagon officials have previously acknowledged that casualty data entries can be delayed, including cases involving concussions and brain injuries whose symptoms may not immediately emerge.

The latest additions come amid continued scrutiny of the Pentagon’s handling of casualties linked to the conflict. The database categorises more than half of the wounded as occurring during “Overseas Operations” following the collapse of a July ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.

The Pentagon did not respond to requests for comment.
