Former footballer arrested after alleged gun struggle with police officer

Former River Plate midfielder Ezequiel Cirigliano has been arrested in Argentina after allegedly wrestling a service firearm from a female police officer and fleeing with the weapon. According to the Daily Star, the 34-year-old was involved in an altercation in Villa Pineral on Thursday before allegedly disarming the officer and escaping.

Police later tracked him to his home, recovered the firearm and arrested him on suspicion of robbery and assaulting an officer. Cirigliano, who also played for Hellas Verona and FC Dallas, was previously arrested in 2022 over an alleged break-in and firearm incident. Investigations into the latest case remain ongoing.
