London schoolgirl who recruited Shamima Begum for ISIS found alive, arrested over Berlin terror attack

Sharmeena Begum, the British woman reported to have recruited Shamima Begum and other London schoolgirls to ISIS, has been arrested in Syria over an alleged link to a deadly terror attack in Germany.

According to the Daily Mail, the 27-year-old was traced after German investigators examining July’s Berlin Pride attack discovered messages allegedly exchanged between her and attacker Abdul Ballout.

Ballout reportedly sent Sharmeena a video pledging allegiance to ISIS, which investigators believe she was expected to forward for publication after the attack. Authorities have reportedly found no evidence she helped plan the assault.

Sharmeena left east London for Syria in 2014 and allegedly persuaded Shamima Begum, Amira Abase and Kadiza Sultana to follow months later.

Her father, Mohammed Nizam Uddin, expressed shock at discovering she was alive.

“I thought she had been killed in Syria. I am relieved that she is at least alive,” he said.

Sharmeena is expected to face terrorism charges in Syria.
