Nigerian tech recruiter in Canada charged with human trafficking, sex offences

A Canada-based Nigerian tech recruiter, Ebunoluwa Tomiwa, has been arrested and charged by Canadian authorities over alleged human trafficking and sexual offences, Peoples Gazette reports.

The Hamilton Police Service said Tomiwa, who also goes by the nickname Boon, turned himself in hours after being declared wanted.

“Hamilton Police have arrested Ebunoluwa Tomiwa after he turned himself into Police earlier this morning. Tomiwa will be appearing in court for a bail hearing,” the force said in a statement.

Police noted that the 33-year-old, who lists himself as a tech recruiter at TEKsystems on LinkedIn, was charged with trafficking in persons, procuring for sexual services, material benefit from trafficking, and withholding documents.

Investigators further disclosed that there may be additional victims, urging anyone affected to come forward.

The arrest adds to a string of recent cases involving Nigerians in Canada, including Olusegun Onidare, charged over alleged sexual assault in Brampton, and Samuel Adewale, who appeared in a Toronto court in May over an alleged pay-to-pass driving test scheme — a pattern likely to deepen scrutiny of Nigerian nationals operating in the country.
