Infantino opens door to FIFA’s $6bn reserves as Member Associations demand more funding

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has backed calls for increased funding to member associations, opening the possibility of using part of the governing body’s reported $6 billion cash reserves. According to GOAL, Infantino told the six confederation presidents and FIFA Council that he supported the “greatest level of additional funding” that could responsibly be delivered through proper governance procedures.

UEFA and Concacaf are reportedly among those pushing for FIFA to release $2.1 billion, with proposals including at least $10 million for each of its 211 member associations during the 2027-30 cycle. Infantino has asked Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom to consolidate the proposals ahead of the FIFA Council meeting on October 15, where financial models and implementation plans will be considered.
