FG introduces QR codes for textbooks, releases 2026–2028 approved list

The Federal Ministry of Education has introduced a new QR-based tracking system for textbooks approved for use in Nigerian schools, aimed at tightening control over instructional materials and improving transparency, Vanguard reports.

In a statement by its Director of Press, Boriowo Folasade, the ministry announced the release of the final 2026–2028 Ranked and Approved Textbooks, with every approved title now carrying a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code alongside its title, author, publisher and year of publication.

The first phase covers textbooks for Primary 1, Primary 4, JSS1 and SS1, conducted under Education Minister Tunji Alausa and Minister of State Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, with a second phase covering Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS2 and SS2 to follow.

The ministry urged publishers, schools and procurement agencies to strictly rely on the official approved list, warning against deviating from it to ensure learners have access to quality, curriculum-aligned materials.

It described the initiative as part of a broader push to strengthen transparency and accountability in textbook provision across Nigerian schools.
