Lack of coordination slows reliable electricity supply, says Tegbe

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has said a lack of coordination has slowed the delivery of reliable electricity supply to Nigerians, Daily Post reports.

Tegbe made the disclosure on Monday at the announcement of the Off-Grid Stakeholder Coordination in Abuja, represented by his Chief of Staff, Adelabu.

He said the fragmentation of the power sector remains a major hindrance to rapid electrification, describing it as “the quiet tax every under-coordinated sector pays: in duplicated effort, missed investment opportunities, and slower delivery of power to the Nigerians who need it most.”

Rural Electrification Agency Managing Director Abba Aliyu further stressed the need for a centralised platform to help the industry track existing projects and allocate resources more efficiently.

“As Nigeria’s off-grid energy sector continues to expand in scale, investment, and institutional participation, there is an increasing need to establish an Off-Grid Sector Coordination Secretariat that will provide a structured platform for alignment across government institutions, development partners, private-sector operators, and other stakeholders,” he said — a coordination gap both officials now say must close for reliable power to finally reach more Nigerians.
