Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott sentenced to seven years for sexually abusing two children

Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott has been sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually abusing two children in Scotland over separate periods spanning more than a decade.

According to SaharaReporters, Dott, 49, was sentenced by Lord Harrower at the High Court in Edinburgh on Tuesday after being convicted last month.

The offences involved two primary school-aged children and occurred between 1993 and 1996 and between 2006 and 2010. Dott was also placed indefinitely on the sex offenders’ register.

During sentencing, Lord Harrower said Dott deprived the victims of “a significant part of their childhood” and described his conduct as showing the “classic hallmarks of grooming.”

Dott maintained his innocence, describing the accusations as “disgusting.”

The former player won the World Snooker Championship in 2006. Following his conviction, his professional association membership was permanently revoked and he was removed from the World Snooker Tour’s Hall of Fame.
