2027 World University Rankings: Covenant, UI, UNILAG top Nigeria’s list

Covenant University, the University of Ibadan and the University of Lagos have emerged as Nigeria’s highest-ranked institutions in the 2027 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

According to Vanguard, the three universities were placed in the 801–1,000 global bracket in the latest ranking, which assessed 2,297 universities across 118 countries and territories.

Covenant, UI and UNILAG each recorded an overall score range of 36.4–40.1. Ahmadu Bello University, Bayero University, Landmark University and the University of Ilorin followed in the 1,001–1,200 bracket.

Babcock University, Osun State University and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, ranked between 1,201 and 1,400 globally.

The ranking evaluates universities based on teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook.

Globally, the University of Oxford retained first place for an 11th consecutive year. Tsinghua University climbed to 11th, while the National University of Singapore entered the global top 15.
