Lagos police officers storm FUOYE vice-chancellor’s residence at dawn over fresh petition

Armed officers identified as personnel of the Lagos State Police Command reportedly stormed the residence of Federal University Oye-Ekiti Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi O. Ogunwole, on Wednesday over a fresh petition.

According to SaharaReporters, the officers arrived at the Vice-Chancellor’s quarters around 6:20am and allegedly forced their way into the compound, intending to take Ogunwole to Lagos.

Sources said the officers threatened to shoot guard dogs at the residence, prompting tension within the university community.

Staff and students reportedly gathered at the residence after learning about the operation. The crowd and intervention by several individuals reportedly helped de-escalate the situation, with the officers eventually leaving.

The operation was reportedly linked to a fresh petition co-authored by Dr Kehinde Adetola of FUOYE’s Faculty of Law and former Vice-Chancellor Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina.

Ogunwole had previously been detained over a separate petition allegedly filed by the same individuals before being released on personal-recognition bail.
