Premier League rivals warn one-season relegation would not be enough for Man City
Manchester City’s Premier League rivals believe relegation for just one season would not be enough punishment if the club’s guilty verdict is upheld on appeal. According to The Guardian, several club executives want a sanction reflecting the scale of the financial breaches.
An independent commission found City guilty of more than 100 charges and concluded that alleged “sham commercial deals” helped inflate income by about £900m between 2009 and 2018. Possible sanctions include points deductions, transfer restrictions and expulsion.
The Premier League will argue for its preferred punishment, while the independent commission will make the final decision. City deny wrongdoing and are expected to appeal the verdict.
