UEFA opens Negreira case investigation after Real Madrid dossier against Barcelona
UEFA has opened an investigation into Barcelona’s involvement in the Negreira case after Real Madrid submitted a dossier containing around 50,000 pages of documents and statements. UEFA confirmed that its Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors will assess the material as part of their ongoing review of payments made to former refereeing official José María Enríquez Negreira between 2001 and 2018.
According to Madrid Universal, the European governing body will examine the purpose of the payments and whether they influenced sporting matters. Real Madrid have reportedly asked UEFA to strip Barcelona of titles won during the period.
