Nigerian man charged after calling 911 to avoid paying $63 restaurant tab
A Nigerian man, Abdul Rasheed, has been arrested in Georgia, United States, after allegedly calling 911 and pretending to be ill to avoid paying a $63 restaurant bill.
PUNCH reported that Rasheed allegedly ate at a Red Lobster restaurant in Douglas County before attempting to avoid settling the bill.
Authorities said Rasheed called 911, claimed he was sick and requested medical assistance. Emergency responders reportedly found him well but unwilling to pay.
“Law enforcement sources said Rasheed had finished a $63 meal at the restaurant before allegedly deciding that he would rather not settle the bill,” the report stated.
“Instead of an ambulance trip to the hospital, he got a Very Important Person ride in the back of a police car to Douglas County Jail,” it added.
Rasheed was booked into Douglas County Jail on allegations of theft of services and unlawful conduct during a 911 call.
He was reportedly being held on a $3,000 bond following his arrest.
