Heimir Hallgrimsson calls on UEFA to keep Ireland and Israel apart

Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson has called on UEFA to prevent his side from facing Israel again following two heated Nations League encounters. The latest meeting ended 1-1 in Serbia, where Troy Parrott’s penalty was cancelled out by Dor Peretz, but tensions overshadowed the contest.

According to GOAL, a confrontation near the tunnel at half-time further heightened the atmosphere, with the two camps involved in heated exchanges. Hallgrimsson believes the situation has gone beyond the teams’ control and wants UEFA to intervene.

“No, they shouldn’t,” he said when asked if Ireland and Israel should meet again, adding that UEFA must decide what happens next. The manager also confirmed the tunnel incident could face disciplinary scrutiny.
