NAFDAC raids Lagos markets, seizes N300m sachet alcohol
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has seized banned alcoholic beverages valued at about N300 million during enforcement operations in Lagos.
According to TheCable, the products were packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200 millilitres, which are prohibited under the federal government’s ban.
NAFDAC said distributors and retailers were arrested during operations at Ile-Epo market, while raids were also conducted at Ojuwoye market in Mushin and Oke-Arin market on Lagos Island.
“Investigations indicated that some distributors and retailers were hoarding the products amid increased demand and rising prices,” the agency said.
“NAFDAC emphasises that the ban remains in force and warns distributors, retailers and other operators against the sale, distribution or hoarding of the prohibited products.”
The agency identified two suspects under investigation as Grace Ehis Eke, 70, and Azudigwu Prince Eva, 43.
NAFDAC began a nationwide operation against the prohibited products in July.
