“I lost my rock” – Patrice Evra announces death of his mother
Former Manchester United and France defender Patrice Evra has announced the death of his mother, Juliette, who had been battling Alzheimer’s disease.
The Sun reports that Evra shared the news in a video on his social media channels, in which he sang Sexion D’Assaut’s “Avant qu’elle parte,” meaning “Before she goes.” He choked back tears during the song before addressing his audience.
He said: “I lost my rock, but I’m trying to stay positive. People ask me every time if I’m always happy.
“And now all the people that have still got their mum, even if the death doesn’t stop the love, just tell them you love them, every single day, before they leave.”
He captioned the post: “Even when the whole world is against you, she will always be your best friend.
“A mother’s love is forever, no matter what happens in life. Rest in peace, Maman. You will always be in my heart.”
Evra has previously said he films some Instagram videos without a left shoe in honour of his mother, who lost a leg after being rushed to hospital in 2010.
