Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the Federal Government’s proposed 30-day fuel discount at NNPC stations. He described it as a desperate, temporary gesture that cannot repair the damage caused by the crushing cost of fuel.
In a statement by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the Tinubu administration’s attempt to dangle a fuel subsidy as bait for Nigerians was reckless, disgraceful and scandalous.
ACF Tells FG to Shift Focus from 2027 Politics to Worsening Insecurity
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has urged the Federal Government to stop what it called an excessive focus on the 2027 elections and prioritise the worsening insecurity across the country.
The forum said continued attacks, killings, abductions and the destruction of livelihoods by armed groups posed an existential threat to Nigeria. It accused political office holders of paying greater attention to electioneering than to citizens’ security and welfare.
FG Working to Bring Inflation Down to Single Digits, Says Onanuga
The Federal Government is working to bring inflation down to single digits, Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has said.
Onanuga disclosed this while announcing additional measures introduced to support Nigerians amid the global fuel crisis.
According to him, the government is also working on a comprehensive package of fiscal measures to sustainably bring inflation down to single digits in the near term.
Rescued Corps Members Reunite with Families in Ibadan After Seven-Day Ordeal
The rescued prospective corps members have reunited with their families in Ibadan, Oyo State, after a seven-day ordeal.
The DSS headquarters in Aleshinloye released them to their relatives on Thursday. Parents and family members received them after waiting about three hours at the facility, where the youths were debriefed upon arrival in the state capital.
SSACO Alleges Attacks on APC Candidates, Supporters in Ibadan
The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) has alleged attacks on All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates, supporters and political activities in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The organisation alleged that Alhaja Tawakalitu Alli, wife of the APC governorship candidate, Sharafadeen Alli, was attacked during a medical outreach she organised at Ibikunle House, Ayeye, Ibadan.
Air Force Chief Appeals for Patience as Probe into ATR 42 Crash Continues
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has appealed for patience as the Nigerian Air Force investigates the crash of its ATR 42 aircraft, NAF 931, in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. All 25 people on board were killed.
On Thursday, Aneke led senior officials to join the search and recovery team as efforts continued to recover evidence from the site.
INEC Begins Display of Voters’ Register, PVC Distribution Nationwide
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun displaying the preliminary register of voters and distributing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) across the states ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The seven-day exercise, which started on Friday and runs through October 15, lets registered voters verify their details, raise claims and objections, and collect PVCs from the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise held between August and December 2025.
Two Injured in Multiple-Vehicle Crash Involving Container Trucks in Lagos
At least two people were injured in a multiple-vehicle crash involving two container trucks and three other vehicles at Apostolic, inward Alapere, Lagos State.
It was gathered that the trucks were 40-foot containers. A video shared on the official X account of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Thursday showed officials of LASTMA, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and the police managing the situation at the scene.
NDLEA Arrests 42 Suspected Traffickers in Edo, Declares One Wanted
The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 42 suspected drug traffickers and seized 271.92348kg of illicit drugs in September 2026.
The command also declared a suspected trafficker, Gospel Mudiaga Odeh, aka Omega, wanted after he allegedly escaped arrest during an operation. His Toyota Matrix car, drugs and cash were subsequently seized.
David Mark to Inaugurate ADC Presidential Campaign Council Today
The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, will on Friday inaugurate the party’s Presidential Campaign Council, formally setting its campaign machinery in motion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. It is expected to bring together major party leaders and candidates seeking elective positions on the ADC platform.
FG Proposes ₦1,350 Petrol Price Ceiling, Rules Out Subsidy Return
The Federal Government plans to negotiate a ceiling of ₦1,350 per litre on the ex-gantry price of petrol to reduce price fluctuations nationwide.
Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, saying a price modulation mechanism would shield petrol prices from sudden swings in crude oil prices and exchange rates. He acknowledged, however, that it would not fully ease pressure on households.
‘There Will Be Discount On NNPC Petrol For 30 Days’ – FG
The Federal Government has announced that Nigerians will buy petrol at lower prices at NNPC Limited filling stations for the next 30 days.
Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele said on Thursday that the discount is not a subsidy but an arrangement to sell petrol at cost. He added that the government will negotiate a landing cost, to be reviewed monthly, with priority for public transporters.
NLC Gives FG Two-Week Ultimatum on Petrol Price, Minimum Wage Talks
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has given the Federal Government a two-week ultimatum to reduce petrol pump prices to their 2024 level and begin negotiations on a new national minimum wage.
In a communiqué signed by its president, Joe Ajaero, the congress said the ultimatum takes effect from Friday, October 9, 2026. It also demanded that wage talks begin before the end of October.
20 Rescued Oyo Prospective Corps Members Arrive in Ibadan
The 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members rescued after seven days in captivity have returned to Ibadan, Oyo State.
Rescued on Wednesday, they were taken to the DSS headquarters in Aleshinloye on Thursday. They were among 30 graduates abducted on the Owerri-Onitsha road in Imo State while travelling to camp in Abia State. Ten escaped during the attack.
No Christian Genocide in Nigeria, NSCIA Declares
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has said there is no genocide of Christians or any religious group in Nigeria, insisting that insecurity affects citizens regardless of faith.
In a communiqué signed by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the council called for urgent reform of the security architecture. It backed decentralised policing, but said any state police must rest on professionalism and strong safeguards.
