Train smashes car on Lagos railway track, motorist rescued
A 55-year-old motorist escaped without reported injuries after a moving train collided with his Honda car at the PWD Railway Line in Lagos.
According to SaharaReporters, the train was travelling towards Agege when it struck the Honda, with registration number EKY 902 JT, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.
LASTMA operatives and security personnel rescued the driver and removed the wrecked car from the railway track, allowing the train to continue its journey. No casualty was recorded, although traffic congestion persisted around the PWD axis.
The damaged vehicle was handed over to security personnel for further investigation.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended responders, saying “effective inter-agency collaboration, situational awareness and expeditious emergency intervention remain indispensable to mitigating the consequences of unforeseen transportation incidents, particularly those involving railway operations and adjoining road infrastructure.”
He urged motorists to obey railway safety rules, warning that “reckless disregard for railway safety protocols could precipitate devastating and irreversible consequences.”
