Trump picks Katie Zacharia to replace Karoline Leavitt as White House press secretary
US President Donald Trump has selected conservative commentator Katie Zacharia as the next White House press secretary, replacing Karoline Leavitt, who left the administration in August.
According to The New York Times, two people familiar with the decision confirmed Zacharia’s selection as Trump’s administration prepares for November’s midterm elections.
Zacharia currently serves as a senior communications adviser at Trump Media and Technology Group, the company behind the president’s social media platform, Truth Social. She previously worked as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security under former Secretary Kristi Noem.
An attorney, Zacharia frequently appears on conservative television networks, including Fox News and Newsmax, defending the administration’s policies.
Trump praised her loyalty and experience, describing her as “a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning.”
Zacharia welcomed the appointment, calling it “the honor of a lifetime.”
Her appointment comes amid scrutiny of the administration’s relationship with the media and ongoing disputes over journalists’ access to White House briefings. Leavitt, who became the youngest White House press secretary in history, is expected to join Fox News as a contributor in November.
