Police break up Nigerian wedding over alleged noise complaints in Netherlands
Police on Sunday interrupted a Nigerian wedding celebration in the Netherlands over noise complaints, according to Peoples Gazette. Footage reviewed by the outlet showed officers in yellow vests entering a decorated hall mid-ceremony and directing guests, dressed in formal and traditional Nigerian attire, out of the venue, some visibly distressed.
Others protested as officers managed the crowd. A voice in the background said, “It is because we are blacks; you’re treating us like animals. I still believe it’s because of our skin colour. This is not nice. This is intimidation. You can’t just spoil a party like that. This is not nice. This is someone’s wedding; you don’t have to stop it like that.”
Reactions were mixed. Some urged hosts to respect laws, while others condemned the interruption. “If you were being loud around residential area after 11, they have the right to shut you down,” said chronic_betch. Misboombastic questioned whether police would have been called if they were white.
