Federico Chiesa’s Liverpool future in doubt after Iraola’s Manchester City decision
Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa faces an uncertain future at Anfield after being restricted to a late substitute appearance in Sunday’s Premier League defeat to Manchester City. According to GiveMeSport, manager Andoni Iraola’s decision to introduce the Italian in the 88th minute, despite several attacking absentees, has raised further questions about his position in the squad.
Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai were unavailable for the encounter, yet Chiesa was overlooked for a starting role. Youngster Rio Ngumoha was also introduced ahead of him as Liverpool chased the game. The report highlighted Chiesa’s limited involvement since joining the club, with the winger recording 50 appearances, nine starts, five goals and five assists.
He made just one Premier League start last season, accumulating 318 minutes in the competition. With the January transfer window approaching, Chiesa could consider leaving in search of regular first-team football, having struggled to establish himself in Liverpool’s attacking hierarchy.
