950 immigration officers, including CG Nandap, due to retire in 2026 amid succession concerns
About 950 officers and men of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), including Comptroller-General Kemi Nanna Nandap, are due to retire in 2026, raising concerns over succession, career progression and staff welfare, SaharaReporters has reported.
A nominal roll obtained by the outlet lists Nandap’s retirement date as October 10, 2026. This differs from the December 31, 2026 end date announced by the Presidency when President Bola Tinubu extended her tenure in March 2025. It is unclear whether the roll was amended.
The list includes two Deputy Comptrollers-General and six Assistant Comptrollers-General, alongside hundreds of mid-ranking officers.
A source told the publication that only two of the Service’s 10 DCGs remained in active service. “Almost all the top hierarchies are going this year,” the source added.
Another source said: “Stagnation is the case of all her juniors in service who were supposed to attain a certain rank before retirement.”
Officers also cited increased passport fees and a CERPAC fee of $3,250, saying revenue growth had not improved welfare.
NIS spokesperson Akinsola Akinlabi could not be reached for comment.
