Customer sues FCMB for N5bn over alleged unauthorised disclosure of bank statement
A customer has sued First City Monument Bank Ltd for N5 billion over the alleged unauthorised disclosure of a company’s bank statement to a third party.
According to The Guardian, the suit was filed before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, by First Tirad Global Resources Ltd and its majority shareholder.
In the case marked FCT/HC/NY/255/2026, the claimants accused FCMB of breaching its duty of confidentiality by allegedly releasing the company’s account statement to a person who had no authority to access the account.
The claimants said the disclosure exposed confidential financial, commercial and personal information without their knowledge, consent or authorisation.
Court documents stated that First Tirad maintained a corporate account with FCMB, with the second claimant listed as the sole authorised signatory.
The claimants alleged that the statement was released outside the bank’s approved procedures for safeguarding customer information.
They are seeking N5 billion in damages over the alleged breach of confidentiality.
