UK Wildlife Park extends closure after man mauled by tiger
Yorkshire Wildlife Park will remain closed on Monday as investigations continue after a man was fatally mauled by a tiger inside an enclosure.
According to Sky News, the Doncaster park was evacuated after the man entered the tiger enclosure on Saturday and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The park said it would remain closed for the “whole of Monday”, while it remains unclear whether the tiger enclosure will reopen normally afterward.
Animal keeper Reece Oliver said the 200kg Amur tiger, Altai, was probably “just playing” when it began pawing the man.
“If it really wanted to kill him, it would have probably killed him within 10 seconds,” Oliver said.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park confirmed Altai is “safe and well” and will not be euthanised.
Police said emergency services responded at 1.35pm on Saturday but the man died despite medical efforts. Park staff affected by the incident are receiving specialist support.
