Real reasons Nigerians may choose Atiku over Tinubu, Obi in 2027
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar is again seeking Nigeria’s presidency in 2027, extending a political journey marked by multiple unsuccessful presidential bids and repeated party switches.
According to Peoples Gazette, the African Democratic Congress candidate will contest against President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
Atiku, who served as vice-president from 1999 to 2007, has previously contested presidential elections under different political platforms.
The report highlighted his opposition to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s third-term bid and his role in identifying officials including Nasir El-Rufai, Nuhu Ribadu and Chukwuma Soludo during the Obasanjo administration.
However, his political career has also faced controversy. A 2010 US Senate report linked him to more than $40 million in “suspect funds”, allegations he has denied.
Atiku has also faced criticism over privatisation decisions and frequent party defections.
He recently appointed a campaign council ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
