14-year-old shoots headmaster, teacher at French school
A 14-year-old boy opened fire at a middle school in southern France on Monday, injuring a headmaster and teacher before being disarmed by a staff member.
According to Channels Television, the shooting occurred at Joseph-Lakanal middle school in Aubagne, near Marseille, where another person was grazed by gunfire.
Authorities said the teenager concealed a hunting rifle inside a guitar case and fired at least four shots, including inside a classroom.
The 53-year-old headmaster and 37-year-old teacher sustained injuries but were not in critical condition.
A pupil identified as Sarah recalled encountering the gunman, who allegedly declared, “I’ve only come for the teachers, not for the pupils.”
Police said the suspect had no known history of criminal activity or radicalisation, while investigators opened an attempted murder investigation.
President Emmanuel Macron praised the school staff, saying their response helped prevent further casualties.
Authorities also ruled out any apparent connection between the shooting and recent student protests.
