After detectives rejected N8m bribe, Police promote officer who signed their dismissal
The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly promoted Emma Adegboyega Oyeleye, the officer who signed the dismissal signal for two detectives who allegedly rejected an N8 million bribe while investigating a suspected car theft syndicate in Kwara State.
According to SaharaReporters, detectives Shola Akano and Glorious Babatunde were dismissed in July 2020 after probing the alleged criminal network.
Oyeleye, then an Assistant Commissioner of Police, signed the dismissal signal dated July 21, 2020.
A senior police source said he was promoted in 2023 and again in 2026, reportedly attaining the rank of Commissioner of Police.
The dismissed detectives said they were invited to Abuja in January 2021 for an investigation but have received no resolution.
“We are all invited to Abuja for investigation in January 2021. Till today, nothing comes up till today,” one of them said.
The officers alleged that they were punished after refusing an N8 million bribe meant to compromise the investigation.
