Gianni Infantino accused of failing to disclose £1.3m FIFA payment
FIFA president Gianni Infantino has been accused of a “clear contravention of the rules” after allegedly receiving an undisclosed £1.3 million payment in 2024. According to The Telegraph, US Internal Revenue Service filings show that FWC2026 US Inc, a subsidiary involved in organising the 2026 World Cup, paid Infantino $1.76 million (£1.3 million) in addition to his declared earnings of approximately £3.88 million that year.
Miguel Maduro, former chairman of FIFA’s governance committee, said the alleged omission breached the organisation’s transparency requirements, which state that “the individual compensation of the Fifa president … shall be made public”. “It is a clear contravention of the rules if he is paid other amounts by companies related to Fifa and it is not made public,” Maduro said.
FIFA maintained that the president’s compensation and contractual benefits are determined by its compensation sub-committee and reported to US authorities in accordance with applicable requirements. The allegations emerge ahead of Thursday’s FIFA Council meeting, where the abandoned World Cup investment proposal and other controversies involving Infantino are expected to face scrutiny.
