A 25-year-old British-Nigerian man, Bosun Osagie, has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison for hacking a woman’s social media accounts and blackmailing her.

According to The Africa Media, Osagie, a resident of Bexley, southeast London, was sentenced on October 12 after pleading guilty to computer hacking and blackmail.

Merseyside Police said the investigation began in February 2023 after the victim reported that her Snapchat and X accounts had been compromised.

Osagie allegedly used her stolen photographs to create fake profiles advertising her as a sex worker and offered her images for sale online.

He subsequently blackmailed the woman, prompting police investigations that led to his arrest and prosecution.

The court also imposed a 10-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.

Detective Sergeant Darren Devonport condemned the offences, describing them as a serious invasion of privacy that caused considerable distress.

Police urged victims of online abuse to report incidents promptly.
