VIDEO: I respect Peter Obi but… – Shettima
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has accused Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, of making unsubstantiated claims about winning the election.
Shettima spoke on Wednesday during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja.
According to Tribune, the vice-president also criticised Obi’s economic proposals, warning against adopting foreign policies without considering Nigeria’s peculiar circumstances.
“I respect Peter Obi, but he has gone beyond his mastery of philosophy to make bogus claims about winning the 2023 presidential election without adducing a shred of evidence,” he said.
Shettima further questioned Obi’s frequent comparisons between Nigeria and Bangladesh.
“What succeeds in Bangladesh cannot simply be transplanted to Nigeria without accounting for the differences in our populations, economic structures, institutions and national circumstances,” he said.
He maintained that Nigeria’s population of over 250 million required policies tailored to its economic realities rather than borrowed statistics.
Obi finished third in the 2023 election, while the Supreme Court subsequently upheld President Bola Tinubu’s victory.
