Trump administration reportedly seeks to revoke Ilhan Omar’s citizenship, deport her

The administration of United States President Donald Trump is reportedly investigating Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in an effort to revoke her American citizenship and ultimately deport her.

According to Mediaite, citing a Wall Street Journal investigation published Wednesday, October 14, federal authorities are examining allegations that Omar or her late father provided misleading information during their immigration process.

Homeland Security agents searched Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence on Monday as part of the investigation into immigration documents dating back to the 1990s.

Investigators are reportedly examining whether Omar’s age was altered to indicate she was 17 rather than 18 when her father applied for citizenship.

Being under 18 would have allowed her to obtain citizenship automatically through her father, while an adult would have required separate naturalisation.

Omar arrived in the United States from Somalia in 1995 and became an American citizen in 2000.

Reacting to the investigation, Trump denied involvement but criticised the congresswoman.

“I’ve always found her to be totally crooked, personally,” Trump said.

Omar, however, accused the administration of attempting to “weaponize federal law enforcement,” declaring, “I will not be silenced.”

US Attorney Jeanine Pirro also disclosed that her office had opened “several investigations” involving Omar.

Under American law, revoking citizenship requires the Justice Department to establish fraud through federal court proceedings.

The investigation comes weeks before November’s midterm elections, when Omar is seeking re-election to Congress. No court has revoked her citizenship, and the allegations remain unproven.
