Aide: How ToluwaniSings collapsed, was rushed to eight hospitals before dying
The personal assistant to late Nigerian gospel singer ToluwaniSings, Babadunni Olayemi, has revealed that the musician was taken to between seven and eight hospitals in Ibadan, Oyo State, after suddenly collapsing, but could not secure medical attention.
According to PUNCH, Babadunni disclosed this on Thursday while recounting the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
He explained that some hospitals reportedly refused admission, while others cited the ongoing doctors’ strike as the reason medical personnel were unavailable.
“I am Babadunni Gbolabo. I am the PA to ToluwaniSings. When it happened in the morning, I wasn’t here, so they called me and I came,” he said.
Babadunni maintained that the singer appeared healthy before suddenly collapsing, prompting desperate attempts to revive him and obtain emergency treatment.
“Some said doctors were not working because of the strike. Some did not admit him at all. That is how it went. We tried our best, including prayers. We took him to up to seven to eight hospitals in Ibadan, but God said his time was up,” he said.
The aide added that the singer’s body had been deposited in a mortuary pending decisions by family members regarding burial arrangements.
ToluwaniSings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, reportedly performed at a worship programme shortly before his death.
He was widely recognised for gospel songs including A Very Big God and Onibuore.
His sudden death has prompted mourning among fans and members of the gospel music community across Nigeria.
