How Nigerians can check if their phones are NCC-approved
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has introduced a USSD code, *315#, allowing Nigerians to verify whether their mobile phones and other eligible devices are approved for use on local telecommunications networks.
According to Vanguard, the verification service, known as the NCC Device Checker, forms part of strengthened compliance regulations introduced on October 7, 2026.
Consumers can dial *315# and follow the displayed instructions to confirm their devices’ approval status.
Alternatively, users can visit the commission’s official website at www.ncc.gov.ng/devicechecker.
The service covers smartphones, tablets, modems, SIM-enabled laptops and Point of Sale terminals.
Devices found non-compliant, including counterfeit phones, may be denied access to Nigerian telecommunications networks.
However, the NCC clarified that phones connected to local networks before October 7 were automatically verified.
Consumers experiencing verification difficulties are advised to contact their sellers, network operators or the NCC through its toll-free support number, 315.
The commission also warned Nigerians against fraudulent verification schemes and sharing one-time codes.
