WhatsApp has introduced a guest calling feature allowing people without WhatsApp accounts to participate in voice and video calls through invitation links.

According to Meta, the feature enables users to invite anyone to free, end-to-end encrypted calls without time limits.

Guests can join through a computer browser by opening a call link, entering their names and waiting for approval from the host.

The service supports individual conversations and group calls involving up to 32 participants.

To create an invitation, WhatsApp users must open the Calls tab, select the plus icon and generate a link to share with intended participants.

Only registered WhatsApp users can create these links, while guests must receive permission before entering a conversation.

Hosts can remove guests at any time. Guest participants cannot view other callers’ phone numbers, exchange messages or invite additional people directly.

However, they can share computer screens, react using emojis and raise their hands during discussions.

WhatsApp also announced plans to introduce Google Calendar and Outlook integrations later this year, allowing users to generate call links directly from calendar invitations.

The company said the upcoming integrations would require users to install a WhatsApp plugin and connect their accounts.

The development expands access to WhatsApp calling for workplaces, schools and other groups whose members use different communication platforms.

The company described guest calling as part of broader efforts to improve accessibility while maintaining privacy protections for participants.

The company added that guests can participate without installing WhatsApp, reducing barriers for people invited to meetings, lessons and collaborative discussions.
