‘You met fuel at ₦195, now it’s ₦1,400’ — Reuben Abati tells Tinubu to stop blaming opposition
Arise Television anchor Reuben Abati has criticised President Bola Tinubu for blaming opposition politicians for Nigeria’s worsening hunger and poverty, insisting that government policies are responsible for the economic hardship.
According to Daily Post, Abati made the remarks during Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, October 26, 2026.
His comments followed Tinubu’s statement at an APC campaign event in Kaduna on Saturday, where the president accused opposition figures of creating poverty.
“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did. They created hunger, they created poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” Tinubu said.
Reacting, Abati argued that the APC had governed Nigeria since 2015 and should accept responsibility for current economic conditions.
“You met the price of fuel at about N195, but now fuel is N1400 to N1500 per litre. That rise has caused food prices to go up. Bag of rice, garri, beans have all increased,” Abati said.
He blamed subsidy removal and naira devaluation for rising costs, urging Tinubu to prioritise economic relief.
