Police investigate suspected insider betting on 2026 Ballon d’Or
French police have opened an investigation into suspected insider trading following unusual betting activity surrounding the 2026 Ballon d’Or, according to Daily Post Nigeria.
Twelve accounts on a prediction market reportedly correctly forecast the exact order of the men’s top five, led by winner Harry Kane, followed by Kylian Mbappe, Lamine Yamal, Rodri and Lionel Messi.
At least €250,000 was wagered across the accounts, generating profits of almost €200,000. Investigators are reportedly examining how the bettors managed their positions, with their trading patterns raising suspicions that they may have had access to confidential information before the results were announced.
The investigation comes amid growing scrutiny of betting activities surrounding major sporting awards.
